Ever wondered how many calories you’re burning while playing some Wii Sports on your Nintendo Wii? The American Council on Exercise is a little late with their ‘Wii Sports fitness study’, but they did some great research. Here’s an overview of the calories burned per minute when playing the real sport compared to the numer of calories burned when playing Wii Sports:
Tennis:
The real sport: 8.1 calories per minute
Wii Sports: 5.3 calories per minute
Boxing:
The real sport: 10.2 calories per minute
Wii Sports: 7.2 calories per minute
Golf:
The real sport: 3.9 calories per minute
Wii Sports: 3.1 calories per minute
Bowling:
The real sport: 7.2 calories per minute
Wii Sports: 3.5 calories per minute
Baseball:
The real sport: 7.3 calories per minute
Wii Sports: 4.5 calories per minute
Off course everyone expected that real sports make you burn more calories than the Wii Sports games, but during their research they certainly didn’t play too active. The just flicked their wrists and didn’t throw their whole body into the game.

Nowadays video games are big business for companies like Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony. In GAME BOYS: Professional Videogaming’s Rise from the Basement to the Big Time from author Michael Kane, a New York Post reporter, we go through the journey of elite videogaming teams who get paid to play as they try to break into the sports mainstream and earn money with their hobby. GAME BOYS goes on sale June 23rd 2008.
???????? ????? ????????
“For a sport that many consider to be marginal (if a sport at all), gaming is highly competitive and full of players who are just as idiosyncratic, determined, and flashy as any other pro athlete. Kane does a nice job of catching us up in the excitement—no easy task, as we are reading a book about people who play a game on a computer screen. Like any good sports book, this one is about the game and the personalities in equal measure.”

A lot of gamers want to know how much the Wii Balance Board can carry. A NeoGAF member purchased Wii Fit with the Wii Balance Board and the game told him he was too heavy and it wouldn’t register his Mii-character. The Wii Balance Board is supporting up to 660 lbs, Wii Fit supports weights up to 330 llbs and the NeoGAF guy trying out the game was 350 lbs and 6′8″ tall. There are many other gamers who can’t play Wii Fit because they are too heavy. We sure hope that Nintendo will publish another Wii Balance Board in the future that has a higher weight limit. If Nintendo doesn’t do it, a third party publisher will certainly do it anyway.
