Gamers complaining they’re too heavy for Wii Fit

Wii Fit, Nintendo, Lose Weight, Wii, Wii Balance Board

A lot of gamers want to know how much the Wii Balance Board can carry. A NeoGAF member purchased Wii Fit with the Wii Balance Board and the game told him he was too heavy and it wouldn’t register his Mii-character. The Wii Balance Board is supporting up to 660 lbs, Wii Fit supports weights up to 330 llbs and the NeoGAF guy trying out the game was 350 lbs and 6′8″ tall. There are many other gamers who can’t play Wii Fit because they are too heavy. We sure hope that Nintendo will publish another Wii Balance Board in the future that has a higher weight limit. If Nintendo doesn’t do it, a third party publisher will certainly do it anyway.

It’s encouraging to see the Wii used for health and exercise, but a 350lb person needs much more broad help than the Wii Balance Board can provide.

[...] If you weight over 330 lbs, you can’t play. [...]

everyone is assuming that if your over 300 lbs your fat… when your 6′8″ 300 lbs is pretty close to a good weight unless your shoulders are the same width as your head.

we big folk just wanna play a little soccer/ skiiing lol not use it as a main stay of losing pounds. ITS A GAME lol let us play

anyway workaround is just stick one foot in the middle when its doing its little measure thing and the game works fine.

  4. Big K Says:

I am 6-4 375 lbs. I bench press 560 pounds, squat 800 lbs and can run two miles in under 15 minutes. But I can’t play with the wii balance board. I do believe that some folks that are heavier could benefit from the board having a heavier weight limit.
I don’t care about the actual working out part but I would like to play the games that are compatible with the board.

  5. cj Says:

here’s the ironic thing. Chances are the more you play wii fit, the more muscle tissue you build up from working out. Due to the obvious fact that muscle is heaver than fat, eventually wii fit will make you so fit that you won’t be able to play it anymore

  6. Munk Says:

Eric, cj, don’t be thick. Someone who loses 20 pounds of fat WILL NOT gain 20 pounds of muscle. You would be amazed at the vast amount of variance there is in body appearance and actual weight. As a MD, I see people who, especially when dressed, appear as though it would be impossible for them to weigh over 150 lb, but the scale often shows them to weigh 225 or more. The opposite is just as common. Sadly, the number of folks, especially in the US, who weigh more that 350 pounds is alarmingly high. The ignorance of this truth and the stigma and embarrassment felt by such folks is, in my opinion, the number one reason that so few actually seek help. SHAME on Nintendo for producing a board that can work at 650 pounds and then producing ‘fitness’ software that arbitrarily excludes a large percentage of folks who could benefit most from it. I could go on and on, but a very wise, eminently respected and much beloved old man once told me “Son, stupid people PREFER to be stupid.” Think on it.

i just bought the Wii Fit Plus on saturday and I cant use it because I am 3 pounds over the limit.. I mean would it have killed them to put the limit to 350.. Us bigger people are trying to enjoy it like the rest of the people but come on.. 3 pounds over.. i was soo depressed. I am going to try some tricks i read here and saw on youtube.. hopefully they work.. other than the board i like the console… sports games are fun

  8. Sylvia Says:

I also am one of those big women, I would love to be able to use the tools on Wii Fit to get in shape. Come on someone, make a board for use heavy people. There are lots of us who want to do this. For now I do the sports and Just Dancing games. These can be a workout in them selves. It took the WII to make me want to exercise now don’t limit us. Count us “HEAVIES” and you could make lots more money. Give us what we want!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  9. Danny Says:

oh well, i’m returning it to best buy. if i can’t use it, i’m not keeping it.
