At Spilling Coffee there’s an interesting article about losing weight with the [tag]Wii[/tag]. He says that [tag]Wii Sports[/tag] isn’t the only way to lose weight by videogaming, but it is one of the most fun ways to lose weight. This is very important in the whole weight dropping thing with the Nintendo Wii; keep it fun and make it last as long as possible. If you’re getting agitated at a certain point, put the controller away and go catch some air or do something else to relax. Since a lot of gamers have to deal with overweight and are crazy about the new machine, [tag]Nintendo[/tag] has really invented a cure.

Testimony by Mickey DeLorenzo

May 18th, 2007 by admin

hey_suburbia from WiiNintendo.net spend 30 minutes a day playing [tag]Wii Sports[/tag] from December 3rd 2006 to January 15th 2007 to see what effect the program had on his body, if he was having any pain, how his weight evolved, what his [tag]Wii Fitness Age[/tag] would be at the end, etc. In six weeks he lost nine pounds by playing one half an hour of Wii Sports every day! He kept a blog about how his [tag]Wii Sports Experiment[/tag] was evolving and off course for weight losers like us this blog is a source of information and tips.

Mickey DeLorenzo’s BMI (Body Mass Index):
- Before: 25.2
- After: 24.0

Mickey DeLorenzo’s Body Fat:
- Before: 19%
- After: 17.2%

Mickey DeLorenzo’s Heart Rate:
- Before: 82
- After: 68

He kept record of the average of calories he burned on every part of Wii Sports. In a close second came Wii Tennis with 92 calories during a 15 minute period. He burned the lowest amount of calories on Wii Bowling, ‘only’ 77 calories during a 15 minute period. Wii Baseball isn’t really a sport that was made for losing weight so let’s just keep that one out. The clear winner in the average caleroy test is off course Wii Boxing with 125 calories during a 15 minute period. Note: he played agressively in order to reach the maximum. Be sure to keep it safe!

The conclusion he made on his blog is a really nice one:

I’d like to think that my experiment proves one or two things:

A.) You get back whatever you put into something.
b.) Video games can and are a great way to have exercise and not even know you are burning calories.

Wii Sports - Working out with boxing

May 18th, 2007 by admin

One of the best games to get in shape for the [tag]Wii[/tag] is off course the game every Wii-owner has in his collection: [tag]Wii Sports[/tag]. Wii Tennis must be the favorite segment of this game according to many gamers, but actually Wii Boxing is a lot better to move. In boxing you need to dodge attacks and off course you’ll punch the hell out of your enemy.

Again this is a very simple game to play. The [tag]WiiRemote[/tag] and [tag]Nunchuk[/tag] are actually your boxinggloves. In the simple tutorial you will be told to keep both WiiMote and Nunchuk in front of your face to protect yourself from enemy attacks. For dodging the opponent’s attacks even better, you’ll have to move from left to right, front to back to avoid the [tag]Mii[/tag]’s punches. The only difference with real boxing is that you’re not moving in the ring, your characters are just fixed in the middle of the boxingring. This isn’t a problem though, you’ll be already moving enough.

Tips for playing Wii Boxing

  • Make sure you use the [tag]Wrist Strap[/tag] You don’t want to let the controllers slip out of your hands because in this part of Wii Sports you’ll be moving for sure! Clean up the place before you start gaming, you don’t want to destroy that $500 porcelaine vase! We also advise silicone skins for your gamepads.
  • Make your own Mii’s to fight against. Make for example a Mii with the head of your boss, your mother in law, your brother/sister, a teacher you don’t like. It doesn’t matter; just make sure those punches won’t miss their effect!
  • Grab a towel. Off course you don’t need to have a towel with you to throw it in the ring because the only thing you can’t do in this game is giving up. Just like you shouldn’t give up exercising with the Wii. You do need this towel to whipe your sweat off every now and then.
  • Drink water. That’s right; water, so not those cokes that contain nothing but fat. An energy drink every now and then can’t hurt, but don’t overdo it; it’s going to ruin the work out schedule. Remember to keep eating healthy and don’t run low on sugar.
  • Keep it fun. Make sure you’re not getting too frustrated. At a certain point you’ll have so many points that the opponent will be almost indestructable. Follow the advise the Wii gives you: take a break every now and then, catch some fresh air!

More tips to box better in Wii Sports will be added soon. In the meanwhile, check some videos to see how fun and healthy Wii Boxing is.

Really… Losing weight with that thing?

Tired of using these?

There’s a gazillion of ways to kill your overweight. The reason why people keep developing methods to lose weight is because all other methods are: unhealthy, not fun, not working or they just take too much time.

Have you ever thought what those pills can do to your body? I agree: vitamines are healthy, but there are other products out there that you shouldn’t be taking. ‘Quick and lose your weight fast’ while most of them don’t even work. Even if the package says: ‘All Natural - Herbal formulas’ you still shouldn’t trust it. They can contain too much of a certain vitamin, mineral or herb so that your body system is completely messed up. Just a small list of the possible side effects:

  • nervousness
  • restlessness
  • heart arrhythmias
  • insomnia
  • high blood pressure
  • palpitations
  • fatigue
  • ingling in extremities

And this is what overdoses can do:

  • tremors
  • hallucinations
  • heart attack
  • convulsions

Oh and then there are those fitness things that cost hands full of money. Buying your own collection of those machines is very expensive and they steal a lot of space. After a few times you’re tired of them and you’ll want something new. They break very easy and they aren’t the most nice pieces to put in your living room. A pass to the gym costs also hands full of money and then you have that filthy smell of sweat from people you don’t even know! Those places are usually full of guys who took too many pills and have way too many muscles. No, that’s not the environment where you want to spend your spare time.

All those other things you have to stick on your body, Sauna Belts, Butterfly things or those liquids you have to rub on your skin: I don’t even want to smell it any longer! Dump them in the bin, they will scare people for god sakes! Bottles of those oils and other liquids also cost a lot of money and aren’t healthy for certain types of skin.

Surgery? You really like it when people cut your belly open to suck the fat out? It hurts like hell, it’s also really expensive and you’ll have to stay home from work for a couple of days.

We’re sure we haven’t named all of the other ways to lose your belly, but believe us; the program we offer will work. And the [tag]Wii[/tag] is so damned sexy! Leah Abdenour loves it too.

Why?

May 18th, 2007 by admin

Why losing weight by playing on the Nintendo [tag]Wii[/tag]?

Good question! All those diets, excersises and other methods to lose weight are way too boring and take a lot of your time. Playing on the Nintendo Wii is first of all a lot of fun. The games are intuitive and the make you move and sweat! Another big plus is that you can enjoy it while playing on it with your kids. From now on losing weight is a social happening for young and old.

You have never gamed before?

No problem! The Wii was made by Nintendo to attract non-gamers that weren’t into playing with a controller with a million buttons on it. Most Wii-games use the [tag]WiiRemote[/tag], a controller that’s full of nifty motion- and gyro-sensors that accurately follow your movements. No messing around with buttons, D-pads or joysticks; just follow your intuition and move like you would move in real life. The setup of the Wii-console is also very easy and you don’t need a High Defintion Television to make your games look good.

Isn’t gaming done by people with no life at all?

That’s a stereotype. Gamers don’t necessarily have no friends or no life, they are just really into games like you have people who are into playing football. Gaming can be done by anyone, and the [tag]Wii[/tag] makes it easier to start gaming. Even your grandparents or your dog can play Wii-games, it’s really simple and fun!

I don’t need to lose weight

The Wii is a fine piece of entertainment that fits in every household. Seniors, juniors, a young couple,… Everyone could use a Wii in his/her house! Play on your Wii when you’ve invited some friends, when there’s a small family reunion, or just play it all by yourself and meet other friends on the Wii Connect 24 network! You can make the relationship with your kids better by playing games with them on this console. The Wii is a perfect gift for any occasion and you can make anyone happy with it.

I have no more space left in my living room.

It’s off course better to play on the Wii in a bigger room, but it also works in a smaller chamber. Just make sure you can’t hit any objects and hurt yourself, make sure you can game in a healthy way! Buckle up and put that wrist strap on please!
